Build a Data Economy Tool!

Get hands-on experience with the design and implementation of technical components that underpin the data economy, including data sharing, governance, trading, negotiation, privacy, pricing, and compliance. You will work in a small team to design and implement a prototype system or subsystem that addresses a concrete problem in the data economy, and to critically reflect on the technical and governance trade-offs involved. This is a technical project: the emphasis is on system design, implementation, and reasoning, not on essays or purely conceptual analysis. Objectives Through this project, you will demonstrate your ability to: -design and implement technical components for data sharing and data economy systems -reason about governance, privacy, consent, and compliance as technical problems -evaluate trade-offs between different architectural and algorithmic choices -work effectively in a small technical team -communicate technical work clearly in both written and oral form. Requirements Your project must include: -A clear architecture diagram -At least one implemented technical component -Evidence of governance enforcement in the implementation or the report (access control, policies, privacy, etc.) -A working demonstration -Enough documentation to install and run - a structured README (separately from the report) -Must run on standard environment, or Docker It is acceptable to: -Use mock/synthetic data -Simulate external services -Build a subsystem rather than a full platform

What learners will deliver

Technical Artefact -Source code (e.g. Git repository) -Clear instructions to run or test -Reasonable documentation in the code -A structured README on how to install and run the code -A 3-5min video demo recording Written Report ~3000 words (7-10 pages depending on format) -Problem statement and motivation -Relevant background and related work (as appropriate) -System architecture and design decisions (clear architecture diagram) -Description of implementation -Use of AI tools disclosure -Governance, privacy, or economic considerations -Limitations and future work Individual Deliverable -Each student will give a short individual presentation, explaining: their contribution to the project; the key technical decision they were involved in; the design choices and trade-offs considered on their part. -This will be a 3-5 recorded video presentation
